For the self-regulated learner, allowing outside circumstances hinder their learning is inexcusable. These unique individuals see problems as an opportunity to look inward at self for the solution rather than projecting blame on outside conditions. A self-regulated learner is one who focuses their energies on things within their personal sphere of influence and if faced with challenges outside of their control, can quickly adapt. They refuse to allow variables to determine what they will do, how they will do it or how successful they will be at it. Motivation is the most important dimension because without it, the learner would have a limited desire or drive to take the initiative to implement the other dimensions.
